Rerouted Endeavors is an informative personal development and travel blog for EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teachers abroad seeking inspiration and advice as they prepare to expand their career interests.

Teaching English abroad has become almost a new rite of passage for thousands of millennials coming of age during the 2008 financial crisis and its succeeding years.

As optimistic recent college graduates or quarter-life crisis ridden young professionals, the opportunity to get paid to live, work and travel in a foreign country is enticing.

Depending on which country you decide to teach in, you can make enough money to save up for graduate school, to pay off student loans, make a significant down payment on a house back home or simply gallivant across the globe for a year.

One of the smallest classes I taught had only six students

Free housing, disposable income, exotic vacations 3-4 times a year…just a few perks of teaching English abroad

For some, TEFL has always been their ultimate goal as they arrive in the country with Master’s degrees and advance certification.

For others, it was originally seen as a gap year to save money and figure out what to do next. Surprisingly they loved it so much, they decided to make it their profession.

For many, it was a great experience but not necessarily a career they would like to pursue in-depth.

If you are in the latter category, there is no reason to wait until after your work visa is expired to start contemplating what your next source of income should be.

What to expect from the blog?

personal development (and career) advice on how to utilize your time teaching abroad to help find your purpose and ease the transition to your ideal job,

interviews of former teachers that have successfully transitioned into working in another industry as well as current teachers that have flourishing side businesses they focus on while not teaching,

as well as my travel experiences, tips and suggestions to maximize your vacation time and budget during and after your work contract.
